Couple die in Chennai road accident

Chennai: A couple riding on a two-wheeler died when they were knocked down by a speeding container truck in Chennai's Madhavaram on Thursday.

Police identified the deceased as Vijayan, 39, of Thiruvottiyur and his wife Jayarasidha, 33. Vijayan was employed at MRF.

The accident happened when the couple were going to a relative’s house in Madhavaram.

When they reached Madhavaram roundtana, a truck tried to overtake them and hit them. The couple fell on the road and came under the rear wheels of the truck. They died on the spot.

The Madhavaram traffic investigation wing registered a case and arrested truck driver Murugan of Tenkasi.

They sent the bodies to Stanley Govt Medical Hospital for postmortem.

Residents have urged the cops to control the speeding trucks in this stretch as another woman died in a similar accident last week.
