Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: State sees slight rise in number of Covid-19 deaths

on Friday. The number of deaths were below 60 on Thursday and Wednesday. , The cumulative death toll reached 8,685

On Friday, the state tested 83,701 people for the viral infection using RT-PCR testing kits of which 5,488 tested positive.

The Chennai region reported 1,663 fresh cases, with 989 cases in Chennai. While Chengalpet reported 265 cases, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 151 and 258 cases respectively. The region together reported 25 deaths, 16 in Chennai and four each in Chengalpet and Tiruvallur.

The seven other northern districts reported 884 cases and 11 deaths.

The eight western districts together reported 1,472 cases compared to 751 in the south and 714 in the central zone. The west also reported 14 deaths compared to 10 in the south and seven in the central districts.
