MADURAI: A police constable attached to the Madurai armed reserve police battalion was arrested in Theni for snatching a woman’s gold chain, weighing three sovereigns.
The policeman, who has been identified as Rajadurai (28), son of Mani of Uchapatti in Madurai district, went to Theni to meet his friend. After meeting his friend, he was returning to Madurai on his two-wheeler on Sunday night.

When he reached Theni town, Rajadurai snatched the gold chain of a middle aged woman, identified as Suguritha, wife of Sureshkumar of Theni. The woman shouted for help.
Passersby intercepted Rajadurai, who tried to escape on his two-wheeler. They caught him and took him to the Theni town police station.
The police registered a case and arrested him. Top police officers in Madurai were informed about the incident.
