CoP, 25 others to receive President’s medal

CHENNAI:

Police commissioner A K Viswanathan

is among three senior officers in the state selected for the

President’s police medal

for distinguished service to be presented at the

Independence Day function

on Tuesday .

Viswanathan, a 1990 IPS batch officer and native of Tirupur, had received the President’s police medal for meritorious service in 2006.

S N Seshasai

, additional commissioner, headquarters, served as deputy commissioner in Anna Nagar and Flower Bazaar and deputy inspector general, crime branch. C Raja, additional superintendent of police, core cell, security branch, CID-Chennai, also received the medal for meritorious services in 2007 after receiving the chief minister’s medal for meritorious service in 2002. From 1992-1996, he was looking after the security arrangements of chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

Twenty-three other personnel, including Deepak M Damor, DIG, Coimbatore range; Anisa Husain, DIG, Villupuram; V Vanitha, DIG, Coastal Security Group, Chennai; and G Karthikeyan, DIG, Dindigul have been selected for the President’s medal for meritorious services.

Two superintendents of police (SP), an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), four deputy superintendents of police (DSP), an assistant commissioner of police (AC), an assistant commandant, five inspectors, four special subinspectors and a joint commissioner will alos also receive the award.

Fifteen other personnel will be presented with excellence awards by the chief minister. Six officers, including deputy commissioner of police, Madurai city, A Myilvaganan, who shot to fame during the pro-jallikattu protests will receive the chief minister’s award for public service. Ten officers will be awarded for their excellence in criminal investigation.

The awardees will each be presented an eight gram gold medal and Rs 25,000 by the chief minister.
