Constable stands nude before policewomen, arrested
VELLORE: A constable attached to the Virudhampet police station in Vellore district was arrested on charges of removing his uniform and standing nude in front of policewomen. He did this to register his protest against the policewomen for refusing to register a case against a minivan driver whom he had arrested following a wordy duel.
The arrested constable has been identified as Arun Kanmani.
Police said Arun Kanmani was drunk when he was riding on his motorcycle to Gudiyatham on Tuesday. When he crossed K V Kuppam bus stand, a minivan ferrying workers of a footwear company crossed him. He intercepted the minivan and accused the driver of driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner and attempting to hit his two-wheeler. He forced the driver, identified as Chetu, to accompany him to K V Kuppam police station.
Kanmani demanded that the policewomen register a case against the driver. The policewomen told him that they would wait for the inspector to decide on booking a case against the driver.
The irked constable started removing his uniform and innerwear and stood naked in front of the policewomen to protest their refusal to register a case against the driver. The women cops rushed out of the police station.
K V Kuppam police inspector Tamilselvan reached the station and overpowered the constable with the help of other policemen and rushed him to Gudiyatham Govt General Hospital after forcing him to wear uniform.
The constable created a ruckus in the hospital and damaged the glass doors. In the melee, he sustained injuries on his hands. He abused a doctor and paramedical staff members.
K V Kuppam and Gudiyatham police registered cases under different sections of the PDPP Act and the BNS and arrested him. The constable was suspended a few months ago on charges of harassing a panipuri vendor in Gudiyatham in an inebriated mood.
