Conman posing as a doctor held

Chennai: A man who posed as a doctor in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and conned a few patients was arrested from T Nagar on Saturday after he cheated a cab driver.
The man was identified as Sanjay Varma. Recently, he boarded a call taxi and introduced himself to the driver as Arjun, 42. He booked the trip to Tirupati, and on the way, he asked the driver, Sudhir, to take him to a hotel to have booze. As they were drinking, Varma requested Sudhir to transfer 9,000 to a ‘doctor friend who needed money immediately’. Varma promised to withdraw money from ATM later and pay him back. Sudhir transferred the money to a UPI account. Later, Varma gave him 9,000 before slipping away.
However, Sudhir soon found that the currency notes were fake. Based on his complaint, police tracked down Sanjay Varma and arrested him. tnn
