COIMBATORE: The (BDDS) on Thursday conducted searches on the premises after an unknown person sent a bomb threat email to the official email ID of the district collector.
A collectorate staff member noticed the email which stated that a bomb would explode on the premises. This prompted the evacuation of everyone from the campus.
On being informed, the BDDS and the of the Coimbatore city police reached the spot and launched searches. After an hour of searches, the police personnel declared that it was a fake bomb threat email.
Except for the city police commissionerate, all the other major offices and institutions have received hoax bomb threats in recent months. Besides the collector's office, district court, IT park, schools, colleges and hospitals in the city got bomb threats in the recent months. Since the senders use VPNs and darknet browsers to conceal their identity, the police are finding it difficult to trace them.
