At the inaugural event in Chennai Higher Secondary School in Sharmanagar, the mayor highlighted the Tamil Nadu govt’s focus on education. “The chief minister views education and health as his two eyes. We are committed to providing quality education to every child and ensuring that Chennai schools stand on a par with private institutions.”

She detailed several initiatives introduced under the GCC budget, including infrastructure upgrades through the Smart Cities project and distribution of musical instruments like violins, guitars and keyboards to nurture artistic talents.

“Every student deserves opportunities to explore their passions, whether in academics, sports, or cultural activities,” Priya said.

The mayor praised the Pudhumai Penn scheme, which provides Rs 1,000 per month to encourage girls to continue their education. She announced plans for a Guinness World Record attempt in karate training next month.

“Through these programmes, we aim to empower students, particularly girls, to build a brighter future for themselves,” she added.
