CHENNAI: Chief minister M K Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and other TN politicians on Thursday condoled the death of former PM Manmohan Singh.

Stalin said on X, "Deeply saddened by the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a statesman whose intellect and leadership steered India’s economic transformation. His tenure marked an era of steady growth, social progress, and reforms that improved the lives of millions."
Sharing the old pic of Manmohan Singh with former CM M Karunanidhi, Stalin said the partnership between the two former leaders was "instrumental in advancing Tamil Nadu’s development".

"Their mutual respect and collaboration brought vital projects and strengthened the state’s progress across various sectors. Dr. Manmohan Singh valued Tamil Nadu’s aspirations, ensuring that the voices of the South resonated in national policies," Stalin said.

Stalin also said Manmohan Singh was friendly towards TN. "Manmohan Singh was not only a Prime Minister but a friend of the state. His ability to understand and address our needs helped strengthen Tamil Nadu’s role in India’s growth story. His modesty, despite his vast knowledge and stature, left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him."

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said he was "deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji."

Recalling his stints as the former RBI Governor and Union Finance Minister, Palaniswami said Manomohan Singh's monetary and fiscal policies shaped the nation's economy.

"The introduction of LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation) model of development chartered a new path for the country. A great economist, able administrator, and an exemplary statesman, his contributions hold a special place in the nation's history. His demise marks an irreparable loss to the nation," Palaniswami said.

AIADMK also announced that due to the death of Manmohan Singh the protests planned across the state, to condemn the Anna University issue where a student was raped, have been postponed.

Tamil Nadu Congress president K Selvaperunthagai in a statement said, "Manmohan Singh as the finance minister of India rescued our country's economy and through liberalisation took it on par with leading economies of the world. During his tenure as the Prime Minister for 10 years he made India grow massively and made several achievements."

BJP state president K Annamalai, in his condolence message on X, said, "On behalf of Tamil Nadu BJP, we extend our deepest condolences on the passing away of former Prime Minister Thiru Manmohan Singh avl. A leader with strong acumen in economics, his tenure as the Finance Minister of India steered the country towards a liberalised economy, paving the way for the start of India’s bold reforms."

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, who served as Union Health Minister in Manmohan Singh's govt, said, "Manmohan Singh was one of the renowned economists in the world. He was one of the leaders whom I could never forget in my life. Though I was not even half his age when I was the Union Health Minister, he treated me with great respect. "

TMC president G K Vasan, who served as the Union Minister for Shipping in Manmohan Singh govt, said, "His demise is a huge loss to the country. He has served the country with distinction in various capacities under the leadership of several Prime Ministers in Indian politics. He was India's most experienced economist in financial management. He was a great thinker and scholar."
