CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation school in Kolathur constituency's Bunder Garden area will get a football turf and a basket-ball court. Further, the school will be renovated with smart classes, modern benches and wall paintings.
This was one among the 39 crore worth projects that chief minister MK Stalin inaugurated on Wednesday in Kolathur constituency.
The civic body is set to install outdoor classrooms in these schools, with seating arrangements under trees and shelters. The digital infrastructure includes smart classrooms, wifi-enabled campuses and a database of students.
The CM also inaugurated a shuttle court and sports complex constructed at a cost of 1.27 crore in Thitti Thottam area, a hostel for socially backward classes costing 7.75 crore, and 20 crore worth Metro water projects.
The CM inaugurated a few other school building construction projects during the event, which also saw the presence of municipal administration minister KN Nehru, city corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi and city mayor R Priya.
Apart from this, the CM laid a foundation stone for connecting residents of Venus Nagar and Jayanthi Nagar to Metrowater's underground drainage system by March 2024. A senior Metrowater official said the estimated cost of the new sewage system will be 19.56 crore. Nearly 8,000 residents in both the areas will benefit, with 1,356 houses set to get the connections.
The Metrowater will also replace old pipelines between Jambulingam main road to Kumarappa Road .
