Chennai: Class IX boy drowns in sea, feared dead

CHENNAI: A Class IX student was swept away by a huge wave when he was playing in the seashore at New Beach in Thiruvanmiyur on Sunday. He is yet to be traced.
Student of a school in Neelankarai, D Bhagath, 14, went to the beach at Tiruvalluvar Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur on Sunday. While playing, he was caught in a huge wave and vanished.
Fire and rescue services personnel ventured into the sea on a rubber boat and searched for the missing boy.The Thiruvanmiyur police have registered a case and further investigations are on. In yet another incident, a 30-year-old man allegedly drowned at the Mamallapuram beach on Sunday. His body then washed ashore nearby.
Babu, a private company employee, got married oly a month ago. On Sunday, Babu and his wife, along with their family, visited Mamallapuram. After visiting the monuments, the group went to the beach.
At the beach, Babu ventured into the water for a swim. As he went a bit deep, a powerful wave struck him and pulled him in.
