Chennai’s Shenoy Nagar park to be maintained by private firm

CHENNAI: Thiru Vi Ka Park in Shenoy Nagar, which was reopened in April 2023, will be maintained by a private firm.

On Tuesday, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) signed a contract with Quess Corp Limited for maintenance work in the park. The contract is valued at Rs 4.59 crore. Rekha Prakash, chief general manager, PD, CMRL and Ramesh Karthik Gunasekaran, state head, Quess Corp Limited, signed the contract.

According to a release, the scope of work involves maintaining water supply and drainage systems in the park. The private firm should conduct regular inspections, clean and maintain all the pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, tanks and promptly fix damage or malfunctions.

“It is important to ensure that the water quality is maintained and regularly tested for any signs of contamination and that all systems are functioning properly to prevent any disruptions or safety hazards,” the release said.

The originally 8.8acre park had remained closed for more than a decade for metro rail construction. Most of the tall, deep-rooted trees were cut to make way for Shenoy Nagar metro station and an underground passenger amenities centre.
