In order to avoid water-logging in Ammayammal Street located in Pulianthope, work on a storm water drain network is going since Wednesday. To avoid traffic congestion along this stretch, police have banned MTC buses and heavy vehicles on this stretch, and are asking them to take an alternate route. Small vehicles like bikes and cars are being allowed. Traffic officials said that the drain work was delayed due to the monsoon and is likely to be completed by Friday.

A press release said MTC buses 8B, (Thiru vi Ka Nagar to Broadway), 48B (Puthur to Vallalar Nagar), 48 C (Koyambedu to Vallalar Nagar) and heavy vehicles are not allowed towards Pulianthope Highway junction- Dr Ambedkar Road. They can take the route via Strahans Road, Demellows Road, Haj Building roundabout, Elephant Gate Road and Basin Bridge.

MTC buses 8B (Broadway to Thiru vi Ka Nagar), 48B (Vallalar Nagar to Puthur), 48 C (Vallalar Nagar to Koyambedu) and heavy vehicles were not allowed towards Pulianthope Highway junction-Gandhi Nagar roundtana. These vehicles can reach their destination via Basin Bridge, Elephant Gate Road, Haj building roundtana, Demellows road, Strahans Road and Otteri.

"This is a welcome move. There was minor congestion only when heavy vehicles took the narrow road. Now we are finding it easy to ply through the stretch, as only smaller vehicles are passing by," said Prakash, a resident of Ammayammal street.
