CHENNAI: A leather merchant was arrested for threatening and demanding 25 lakh from a 36-year-old woman bank manager on Thursday. He claimed that he was a sperm donor and that he had helped the woman in giving birth to
twin girls
a couple of years ago.

, 45, a resident of Periamet. A magistrate court in Egmore remanded Meeran in Puzhal prison on Thursday.
The woman in her complaint said that she paid Meeran 13 lakh in various instalments for helping her in conceiving. She lodged a complaint after Meeran threatened to kill her twins if she refused to give him 25 lakh immediately.
Inquiries revealed that the woman befriended Riya Nasreen, a customer at the bank wher she worked. Nasreen and her husband Meeran often visited the manager’s house. The manager, who got married in 2008, could not have a child. Due to differences with her husband they separated in 2017.
Meanwhile, Nasreen and Meeran in order to help the manager introduced her to a doctor in Dindigul, who promised to resolve her fertility issue.
The woman stayed alone and delivered twin girls through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) in 2017. As a token of gratitude, the woman manager offered 13 lakh to Meeran and his wife Nasreen.
Recently, Meeran began to threaten her, demasnding more money and she lodged a complaint.
Police booked a case under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of woman), 294 (b) (abusing), 448 (trespassing), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3 of Tamil Nadu Women Harassment (Prevention) Act.
