Chennai sizzles as Nungambakkam crosses 40°C, Meenambakkam touches 42°C
Chennai: City temperatures crossed 40°C continued to reel under intense summer heat on Wednesday, with Nungambakkam recording 40.7°C and Meenambakkam airport touching 42°C, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).
Meenambakkam recorded a departure of 2.9°C above normal, while Nungambakkam was 2.5°C above normal for this time of the year. Tiruttani was the hottest place in Tamil Nadu at 41.5°C, followed by Vellore at 41.6°C.
Several other parts of the state also recorded high temperatures, including Madurai airport at 39 degrees Celsius, Tondi at 39°C, Nagapattinam at 38.5°C, Madurai city at 38.4°C, and Cuddalore and Trichy at 38.1°C each.
Hill stations continued to remain relatively cooler, with Ooty recording 25°C, Kodaikanal 25.1°C and Valparai 28 °C.
Weather officials said maximum temperatures in many interior and coastal districts remained above normal, indicating persisting heat conditions across Tamil Nadu.
