POPSK

).

R Anand, post master general, Chennai City Region said a request has been received from the RPO asking them to examine the feasibility for establishment of a POPSK at a post office. “They have sought to identify a post office at

Arakkonam

, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, besides North Chennai which can provide the service of processing passport applications. We are examining it,” he told TOI.

Selected post offices in the city were used for scrutinise and process passport applications in the past, though it was discontinued in 2011.

Presently, passport applications are processed at three Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) of the RPO Chennai situated in Aminjikarai, Saligramam and Tambaram where the applicants are interviewed for verification. However, PSK facility is absent in the northern pockets of Chennai.

“The selected post office at North Chennai and neighbouring districts will provide the service of processing applications for the local residents such as verification of documents after applying through online,” he added.
