Chennai NGO brings together children volunteers to help kids in need

CHENNAI: Team Everest, a Chennai-based non-profit organisation that has been providing education to around 40,000 disadvantaged children since 2006, is all set to launch its initiative, 'Children Volunteering' on November 14, marking Children's Day.

As part of the programme, the

NGO

aims at promoting the culture of volunteering in the country and make it a coffee table conversation inside homes.

"For us, children are not just beneficiaries of our programmes, but have the potential to change the world by becoming volunteers. The idea is also that they would grow up to become volunteers. We have 10 different children volunteering programmes currently, and they are carefully curated opportunities to involve everyone from age three to college students," says Karthee Vidya, founder and CEO of Team Everest.

Most of the programmes will be virtual volunteering opportunities and will enable

kids

to volunteer from the safety of their homes, guided and monitored by parents.

"We also have DIY volunteering programmes, which children can be part of at their own convenience. These include activities like creating a kitchen garden, building a bird feeder, taking up a kindness challenge and many more," says Karthee.

Team Everest also runs beneficiary connect programmes as part of which children can teach kids younger to them. These include programmes like ‘Tell a Story’ that involves children sharing stories with younger kids in rural areas and programmes wherein they can teach creative thinking and problem-solving through games played over a simple phone call.
