Chennai Metro Rail finds alternative revenue source

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has given advertising rights to a private firm to put up advertising boards on its piers and portals.
A release said CMRL has awarded the advertising rights to Mudra Ventures through a tender process.
Officials said the contract was awarded for different stretches -- from Meenambakkam metro station to Alandur metro, Alandur metro to Little Mount metro and Ekkaduthangal metro to CMBT metro.
“This will be one of the major alternative revenue generations for CMRL along with other mediums of advertising and retail and office space portfolios which would help in covering the operational expenses,” the release said.
CMRL would float a tender for piers and portal advertising rights for New Washermenpet -Wimco Nagar depot metro alignment shortly, the release added.
