The auto driver heard this and drove to the Triplicane police station where officers found Aditya Narayanan, a 31-year-old engineer with depression-related issues, had stabbed to death his father with a pair of scissors. He was later sent to Puzhal prison.

Police said the slain man, 68-year-old Muralidharan who is in the construction business, often threatened Narayanan, saying he would poison him, as he was pestering him for money often. Inquiries showed that Narayanan often stayed at home as he didn’t remain in any job for more than a month and was on medication for depression.

On Monday night, Muralidharan was quarrelling with his son when his wife Rohini intervened. Narayanan then stabbed his father with a pair of scissors repeatedly in the stomach and chest, convinced his mother they should meet a lawyer and hailed an auto. Driver Abdul Malik, 25, spotted some red stains on Narayanan’s shirt, but didn’t suspect anything initially.

Then, a police officer said, “He was on Anna Salai when he heard the man telling his elder brother Prasanna Kumar over phone that he had killed their father.” Malik immediately turned on to Wallajah Salai and drove to the Triplicane police station where he told the personnel his passenger had murdered someone. A team detained Aditya Narayanan and Rohini and handed them over to the Adambakkam police.

Meanwhile, Prasannakumar went to his parents’ house and found his father in a pool of blood. He informed the Adambakkam police and took his father to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police registered a murder case.
