Chennai: Man detained for verbally abusing BJP's Alisha Abdullah

CHENNAI: A 37-year-old man was detained by the Neelankarai police for allegedly verbally abusing Alisha Abdullah, the State Secretary of Sports & Skill Development Cell of BJP, over the phone.

The man will be formally arrested after an inquiry, the police said.

According to the police, Alisha Abdullah received a phone call from an unidentified man on Monday. He allegedly verbally abused her and told her the name of the hotel on OMR and the room number in which he was staying.

Alisha went to the spot and caught hold of him. She then handed him over to the police.

The police are conducting inquiries to ascertain how the man got hold of Alisha’s mobile phone number. "We suspect the man is mentally unstable," the police said.

Earlier, Alisha Abdullah released a video on X, alleging that despite repeated calls to the police, no action was taken against the accused.

"I waited for hours with no proper response from the police nor the hotel authorities," Alisha said on X.

Tagging additional traffic commissioner of Greater Chennai Police R Sudhakar, Alisha said it was her situation today and added, "Imagine how many women are facing this every day with 0% police protection!"
