Chennai: Kasimedu fishermen catch missile, causing stir

CHENNAI: A missile without its engine was caught by a fisherman and brought ashore, causing a stir in the fishing hamlet of Kasimedu on Friday.

According to police, Dineshkumar, a local resident, owns a fishing boat. A few days ago, boat driver Venkatraman and several other fishermen were out at sea when, while casting their nets, they felt something unusually heavy.

Upon hauling it in, they quickly returned to shore and reported the discovery to the Kasimedu fishing harbour police and fisheries department officials. The fisheries department officials retrieved the object and launched an investigation.

The Kasimedu police are also looking into the matter. "It is likely that the missile fell into the sea after a trial by the defence forces. We are investigating," said a police source.
