Chennai girl who never skipped a single day at school scores 598/600

Chennai: She did not take a single day off — right from LKG to Class XII. Today, her efforts and discipline have yielded results. K C Kavin Kaavya scored 598/600 and became the topper in Chennai district.A student of Spartan Matric Higher Secondary School in Mogappair, she scored centums in five of the six subjects — accountancy, language, commerce, business maths and economics. Staff at the school said that her total attendance days were at least 3,000 (counting 200-220 working days a year from Class I-XII). Looking back, Kaavya, says it was a difficult but a fulfilling decision to not miss a single day. "Sometimes it was difficult as I had to skip family functions. I am glad that my hard work paid off. Everyone around me is happy too. I thank my parents and teachers for their support," she said."I never compelled my daughter to go to school every day. She always had the drive in her to do well," Kaavya's mother, K Chandrakala, a homemaker, said. Kaavya now plans to pursue BSc Economics — either in India or abroad. "I am currently doing a data science course to gain new skills," she said.School principal C Joseph lauded Kaavya's perseverance and said she has always been a bright student. "Achieving such a feat with full attendance is really a tremendous task. Our school continues to provide the necessary support to students. All 147 students who took the exam have passed with flying colours," he added.
