CHENNAI: As rainwater flowed above the Captain Cotton Canal's outer walls, the sewage and rainwater moved towards the low-lying roads and streets close to the canal channel in Vyasarpadi.

At least 1.5 feet of water gathered on Sathyamurthy Nagar Main Road, Meenambal Salai, and Krishnamurthy Nagar areas. The officials installed flood gates to seal the porous gaps through which the water leaked, flooding the nearby residential areas.

As a bridge was being constructed across the Captain Cotton Canal close to the garbage dumping yard, the rainwater receded and flooded the nearby residential areas.

Vehicular movements were restricted in flooded areas. Police personnel diverted cars, autorickshaws, and bikes to detours to avoid being stuck in the rainwater, while heavy vehicles were allowed.

Perambur Barracks Salai towards Aattu Thotti in Pulianthope was also flooded with rainwater. Vehicles moved at a slow pace on this stretch. Broadway Road was also inundated due to the rainwater.

Grand South Trunk (GST) Road was flooded from Guduvancherry to Perungalathur. Vehicles moved on one lane, leaving the other roads inundated.
