Chennai floods: Minister opens measles and rubella vaccination camp

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian on Wednesday inaugurated a vaccine camp against measles and rubella viruses in Chennai and neighbouring districts affected by floods caused by cyclone Michaung.

The minister inaugurated the camp on the C P Ramaswamy Road in Alwarpet.

"Children aged between 9 and 15 years can use the opportunity to get the vaccines. The camp will go on till December 30," the minister said.

The government has identified 27.4 lakh people in the four districts - Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur - who are aged between 9 and 15. "Even if the kids have already got these vaccines, it is better for them to come again and get them," he said.

“The government has 2.9 lakh vaccines, and another 10 lakh is arriving from the Centre,” said Subramanian.
