Bharatanatyam
teacher was arrested by the all-women police station in
Avadi
on Tuesday for allegedly sexually harassing a 11-year-old girl student of his dance class.
Ravisharma alias Balasubramanian, who was a teacher at the dance school 'Ratnalaya', has been arrested. On Thursday, parents of other children who also trained under him complained that Ravisharma's sister, an advocate in the
Madras high court insulted and abused them. A complaint in this regard has been sent to the Bar council and the chief minister's cell.
According to the FIR, the minor girl was training under Ravisharma for four years. Her mother, in her complaint, stated that on October 28, Ravisharma asked her to send her daughter to his dance classes at 8am the next day. This was to "rehearse for a dance routine" that both were slated to perform.
After dropping the girl at her dance classes, , her mother returned at 11:30am to pick her up.
On November 1, the girl told her mother that her friend had stopped going for dance classes because the accused used to hug her friend. Later, she told her mother that on October 29, her dance teacher had molested her.
Her mother, after consultating her family members, filed a police complaint in Avadi. A number of other parents also accompanied her to the police station as they believed that the Ravisharma may have misbehaved with other kids as well.
Police have registered a case under Pocso Act's section 9(m), 8 and 10 against the dance teacher.
