In her affidavit, Namitha said she was residing in a flat in Veerabadran Street at Nungambakkam and was regularly paying Rs 15,000 as rent. However, house owner Karupaih Nagarathinam was forcing her to vacate the premises.

The house owner had also threatened her manager of dire consequences if she didn’t vacate. He had threatened to cut off electricity and water supplies and throw her out of the house physically, she said in the petition.

Namitha said the house owner had on many occasions asked her to attend events conducted by his relatives. She had attended such functions, including some inaugurations, without any monetary consideration.

If Nagarathinam evicted her, she would face “great damage and hardship,” said Namitha in her petition. She prayed the court to grant an ad-interim stay to stop the owner from evicting her.

Granting an ad-interim stay till January 12, XIII assistant city civil court judge G Shanthi directed the house owner not to harass Namitha.
