Chennai Corporation conducts 2,433 special medical camps
CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation conducted 2,433 special medical camps from Oct 15 to Nov 21 to prevent disease outbreaks during the northeast monsoon. More than one lakh people made use of these camps.
There were a doctor, a nurse and an assistant in each camp. These camps provided treatment for cold, fever, cough, skin diseases, waterborne illnesses and other medical conditions prevalent during the rainy season.
The GCC has been carrying out preventive measures in areas that have reported fever outbreaks.
It carried out mosquito control measures to protect the public from diseases like dengue and malaria during the rainy season.
GCC employees visit houses to identify mosquito breeding sites such as overhead/underground tanks, wells, and unused items (like tires, broken plastic containers) and eliminate larvae if found.
Continuous awareness is being raised among the public to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. Pamphlets are being distributed. Various mosquito control measures, including spraying insecticides, fogging, and using drones for spraying, are being undertaken, according to a statement from the GCC.
For mosquito-borne disease prevention, 3,368 field workers are employed. Equipment, including 319 insecticide sprayers, 54 power sprayers, 156 battery-operated sprayers, 324 manual fogging machines, and 64 vehicle-mounted fogging machines, are being used.
