Chennai Corporation commissioner ‘walks the talk’ on Marina Beach

CHENNAI: Chennai Corporation commissioner D Karthikeyan and senior officials inspected Marina Beach early on Tuesday morning. Sources in the civic body said that the inspection had been carried out in the wake of Madras high court asking the commissioner to 'walk the talk' and to push the clean-up of Marina Beach.The corporation on Monday informed the high court bench that 175 workers had been deployed in three shifts to carry out cleaning operations along the beach and on the Loop Road. "We are constantly getting updates from zonal officials and Ramky officials about the cleanliness work," said an official from the central region.The commissioner also inspected toilets on the beach besides checking the conservancy operations and alignment of shops along the beach. He instructed staffs to ensure proper conservancy operations.The civic body is constructing a fish market near Santhome to accommodate 289 fish vendors who currently sell their catch along the Marina Loop Road.
