On Wednesday, a group of 50

contractors

sent a letter to the commissioner stating that most tenders of the civic body were fixed beforehand for a small set of contractors.

Talking to reporters here, the commissioner said all

tender discrepancies

would be looked into based on complaints received and action would be taken.

“As a first step, we have cancelled a few tenders. We will take necessary action like blacklisting them, soon,” he said.

Speaking about storm water drain construction, he said after the 2015 floods, 15 IAS officials had monitored various locations that were inundated and proposed projects to reduce water logging.

“It is only this year that we finally got funds for it and so we are implementing it. Restoration work has begun in the Adyar and the Cooum rivers. For Kosasthalaiyar basin, we have applied to the Asian Development Bank for which we await the Centre’s nod,” he said.

He said the corporation would implement plastic ban as per the government order.

Talking about allegations on privatisation of garbage collection, he said the civic body had revised norms and it would not be on tonnage basis anymore but on key performance indicators.

“A company named IB Global has prepared the guidelines, and we will call tenders for two packages covering four zones each,” he said.
