CHENNAI: A 19-year-old college student was killed when he lost control of his bike and slammed into a median on the road at Tambaram on Saturday night. His friend who was riding pillion escaped with injuries.
Police identified the deceased as Punith, a B Tech student of a private college at Chromepet. The pillion rider was identified as Sohith, 19.
The two were on the way to visit Sohith's sister at her hostel at Kattankulathur when the accident happened. Police suspect Punith was speeding and lost control of his bike. They are checking CCTV camera footage to find out what exactly happened. Punith died on the spot of severe head injuries though he was wearing a helmet.
Passers-by alerted the police who sent Punith's body for postmortem to the Chromepet government hospital. Sohith is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
