MADURAI: The central government should not be a silent spectator in the Cauvery water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, former Union minister and the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president G K

said on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters here, Vasan said the Centre should ensure release of water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

“The central government should intervene and ensure that the two states will uphold the federal structure,” he said

He criticised the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu government for not its failure to solve the Cauvery water dispute and Mullaperiyar and Siruvani issues.

The state government should convene an all-party meeting, obtain opinions from the parties and take them to the notice of the central government, he said.

Vasan was in Madurai to attend the marriage of the son of TMC general secretary K S K Rajendran.
