CHENNAI: An autorickshaw driver died on the spot when a speeding Chevrolet car driven by a drunk college student rammed it on the Cathedral Road in Chennai in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh of Erode. Rajesh was sleeping in his autorickshaw -- parked at a roadside auto stand -- when the car driven by K Naveeth, 20, rammed it.
The
accident happened around 2am.
It was at the same spot where a car driven by racer Vikash Anand rammed some autorickshaws killing an auto driver in September last year.
Police said Naveeth and four of his friends were going to Marina Beach in the car. Naveeth, a B Com student in Loyola College, is a resident of Anna Nagar.
His friends have been identified as R Kiran Kumar, 19, of Periamed, R Vishal, 19, of Anna Nagar, N Harikrishna, 21, of Kilpauk and P Vinoth, 21, of Erode. Tests showed that Naveeth and Harikrishna had been drunk, police said.

The body of autorickshaw driver was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem.
In the early hours of September 19, 2016, a speeding Porsche car driven by racer Vikash Anand rammed a dozen autorickshaws parked on the Cathedral Road auto stand, killing twenty-nine-year-old Arugmugam, who was sleeping inside his auto.
