The deceased has been identified as Rajesh of Erode. Rajesh was sleeping in his autorickshaw -- parked at a roadside auto stand -- when the car driven by K Naveeth, 20, rammed it. The accident happened around 2am.

It was at the same spot where a car driven by racer Vikash Anand rammed some autorickshaws killing an auto driver in September last year.

Police said Naveeth and four of his friends were going to Marina Beach in the car. Naveeth, a B Com student in Loyola College, is a resident of Anna Nagar.

His friends have been identified as R Kiran Kumar, 19, of Periamed, R Vishal, 19, of Anna Nagar, N Harikrishna, 21, of Kilpauk and P Vinoth, 21, of Erode. Tests showed that Naveeth and Harikrishna had been drunk, police said.
