CHENNAI: A taxi driver from Pudukottai was nabbed on Wednesday night at the Chennai airport with a fake passport before he could board a Qatar Airlines flight to Dubai. Mohammad Abbas had travelled to the Gulf in 2009 on the same passport and returned a couple of months ago.
On Wednesday, immigration officials verifying passports found his was a fake.
He later confessed that he had affixed his photo on the passport belonging to Tajuddin, a relative.
Abbas told immigration officials that he had lost his passport in a fire accident at his house in Aranthangi near Pudukottai. After he got a driver’s job in Dubai, he decided to fly there on the fake passport. Immigration officials handed him over to the airport police who transferred the case to the central crime branch.
