CHENNAI: A burglar, who threatened suicide at the house of a government primary school principal in Tiruttani for five hours, was arrested on Sunday.

Hearing noises from the house, neighbours knocked. When they tried to open the door, Kannan threatened to commit suicide, after which neighbours called police.
When a police team, led by Tiruttani inspector B Sigamani, reached the spot, Kannan told them that he would commit suicide by hanging if they tried to nab him.
He was arrested after police personnel stormed the house.
“When we stormed the house simultaneously from the front and back doors, the burglar panicked. We didn’t give any room for him to escape and nabbed him,” Sigamani said.
Kannan was remanded in judicial custody after he was produced before a magistrate court in Tiruttani.
