CHENNAI: The Blue Cross of India campus on Velachery Main Road got a new outpatient wing to treat animals and administer vaccines. The wing was declared open on Saturday and two new ambulances were handed over to the centre by sponsors.
"The new OP is more spacious. We will request pet owners to pay the price of the vaccine so that the centre becomes more self-reliant," said S Chinny Krishna, chairman, Blue Cross of India.
The ambulances have been fashioned out of buses with enough space to accommodate more animals, especially while rounding up dogs from a large area for sterilisation, said Shanthi Shankar, a volunteer.
"There is also sufficient ventilation so that rescued animals are comfortable during long-distance transportation," she said. The ambulances have been co-sponsored by the Brigitte Bardot foundation, Rukmini Devi Arundale trust, Animal Welfare Board of India and
Ashok Leyland.
