businessman

died after he fell from the tenth floor of his apartment complex in Padur on Tuesday morning.

Shanthi Prasad had a textile showroom in Velachery.

He was living on the tenth floor of an apartment complex in Padur. On Tuesday, a few residents of the apartment who came down for morning walk found him lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the Kelambakkam police. Police who reached the scene, sent the body for postmortem to Government Chengalpet Hospital.

Police found that his wife Sherly had gone to visit her mother and that he was alone at home. Police informed Sherly and opened the house. They found liquor bottles lying all over the hall.

Police suspect that the man could have consumed liquor and slipped down. However, police did not rule out suicide.

Since Shanthi Prasad was incurring loss in the business they suspect that there is a possibility of him having committed suicide.

In another incident, a 49-year-old man jumped from the Padi flyover in a suicide attempt and was admitted at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition on Tuesday evening.

He has been identified as P Jayavel, of Vadapalani. He is married and has a son. The incident happened around 7pm when he returned from a leather firm in Padi where he works.

He parked his two-wheeler on the flyover and jumped from a height of 40 feet from the arm going towards Villivakkam.

Passers-by rushed him to KMC in an 108 ambulance. On information, the Korattur police rushed to the spot and conducted inquiries.

Jayavel has sustained severe head injuries and fractured his left hand, police said. He is likely to be shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for further treatment.

Police said Jayavel was upset as he found it difficult to run his family a his meagre salary. Further investigations are on.
