Bharathi Salai is an 80-foot-wide stretch connecting Arasamaram junction with Arcot road near Porur. With Metro rail work underway on both Arcot road and Mount-Poonamallee high road, motorists take Bharathi Salai is to avoid traffic jams.

However, about 400 two-wheelers and a few cars too are parked on either side of the university entrance right next to no parking signs put up by traffic police. The vehicles are also parked on space opposite the campus.

“I take this road because traffic on Arcot road is slow. But with vehicles parked on both sides, this road seems no different now,” says Ramesh Vinayagam, a private firm employee who uses the road to reach office on a daily basis.

Azhagar Senthil, an activist from the locality, said students and faculty ignore orders from the cops.

The Valasaravakkam traffic enforcement inspector post is vacant for three months. Traffic enforcement assistant commissioner (T Nagar) Raja, when contacted, said that they will soon send recovery vehicles to remove the vehicles.
