A police team, led by the joint commissioner of police of West Chennai Dr P Vijayakumar, detained and questioned Aswathaman for the past few days.

Aswathaman was earlier booked and arrested for threatening a businessman in Ennore. Aswathaman developed an enmity towards Armstrong as he suspected that the latter was behind his arrest then.

Likewise, Aswathaman thought that Armstrong had worked against him while he had contested in a lawyers’ association election.

Apart from these two reasons, the investigation officers suspected that Rowdy Nagendran was behind the Armstrong murder case.

The police team questioned the arrested suspects -- Ponnai, Balu, Arul, Haridharan and two others -- about the unsolved knots in the Armstrong murder case. Based on their confessions, the team cross-examined Aswathaman and found his role in it, according to police.
