Applications invited from SC/ST/SCA candidates for IIT-M BS degrees
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Volunteers, a social welfare organisation, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO), has invited students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyar communities to enrol for Bachelor of Science programmes offered by IIT-Madras.
TAHDCO and IIT-Madras will bear their education expenses, while Tamil Nadu Volunteers will offer guidance, mentorship and other technical support.
IIT-Madras opened admissions to four-year BS programmes -- in Data Science and Applications; Electronic Systems; Management and Data Science; and Aeronautics and Space Technology -- on May 11. The programmes are held online, and students can choose a programme of their choice after clearing a qualifier exam for the course.
“The programme is intended to benefit students who are financially and socially underprivileged. All learning materials -- videos, PDFs and other content -- will be sent to applicants’ email addresses,” said Kandasamy, MD, TAHDCO.
From the stage of application to preparing for the qualifier exams, the students require a lot of guidance and support, including financial support. “About 400 volunteers from TN Volunteers will cater to this. Some of the SC/ST/SCA students applying for these programmes come from remote districts, where they may not have proper internet facilities. Several of them may also have logistical constraints. Our volunteers will help the students with that,” said Hari Krishnan from TN Volunteers.
The last date for registration is June 3, 2026. Students can apply through https://tamilnaduvolunteers.org/scholarship/
TAHDCO officials, however, said that the applications may be open through this week.
