The governor held a meeting with the registrar and senior faculty members. He interacted with students and listened to their perspectives, recommendations and suggestions to make the campus a safe and secure place.

"The governor has stated that the safety and well-being of our students are non-negotiable and instructed the university administration to take immediate action on the safety and security issues raised by students," a release from Raj Bhavan said.

Ravi advised students and their parents not to panic and directed the university administration to ensure a culture of safety and accountability, the release added.

Police tightened the security at the campus due to the governor’s visit.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar constituted a two-member fact-finding committee to investigate the sexual assault of the student.

"NCW member Mamta Kumari and Maharashtra former DGP Praveen Dixit, who are part of the committee, will investigate the case, examine all the circumstances leading to the incident and assess the actions taken by the authorities. It will also interact with the concerned officials, victim, her family, friends and various NGOs to ascertain facts and propose measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents," a release from the NCW said.

The fact-finding committee is likely to visit Chennai on Monday (Dec 30).

Following the governor’s visit, the Anna University Teachers Association wrote a letter to him stating that the delay in the appointment of a V-C is seriously affecting the routine and morale of the university.
