Anna University puts exam fees hike on hold

CHENNAI: Anna University on Friday put the decision to increase exam fees by 50% on hold following the direction from the Tamil Nadu government.

“Based on the instruction from higher education minister K Ponmudy, we have decided to put the exam fee revision on hold,” Anna University vice-chancellor R Velraj said.


Earlier, a circular from the controller of examinations of Anna University to affiliated colleges had announced hiking of the exam fees for UG theory, practical and internal exams per paper from Rs 150 to Rs 225. The fees for PG theory, practical, fully internal paper also had been increased from Rs 450 to Rs 650.

The fees for UG and PG consolidated mark sheets had been increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. It also introduced online services fee for uploading consolidated marksheets and digital certificates in digi locker as Rs 1,500.

University officials said the exam fees had been revised after more than 10 years following the increase in the cost of materials like papers, printing questions and evaluation of answer scripts.
