Chennai: The water resources department removed more than 200 truckloads of silt from the Adyar estuary in the past few weeks. Totally, 4.86 lakh cubic metres of silt will be removed from the 2-km river stretch from the estuary to the Thiru Vi Ka bridge. Officials said the silt is dumped in the nearby bund area and later would be moved to Kodungaiyur and Perungudi dump yards for processing.
The mud would also be sent into the medians for planting if they can be used.
The work, carried at a cost of ₹21.6 crores, will go on for the next six months, to keep the river ready for
monsoon rain. During the process, the WRD will also remove water hyacinth.tnn
