Kovai Sarala has acted in around 750 movies in more than five languages. She paired with Kamal in “Sathi Leelavathi” in 1995. They have also acted in several other movies together, according to a release from MNM.

“Women in Tamil Nadu are repressed. This must change. We must ensure that the men in our homes vote for a party that will work for the development of women,” she said and added that she was confident that MNM would grant justice to women. “This is the reason why I am joining the party,” she said.

Countering the criticism against actors taking a plunge in politics, Sarala said actors who played different roles were able to empathise with the plight of the common man. “They are the ones who will be able to eradicate the problems of the common man. That is why I have an emotional connect with this party,” she said.

Mookambika Rathinam and Dr Usha Elango have joined the party along with the actress.

Welcoming women to the party, Kamal said, “It is heartening to see that women, who have contributed to the betterment of the society through various fields, have joined our party. I have understood that women are a force to reckon with. You must understand your potential as well.”
