CHENNAI: Parks are always busy on Sundays. But on December 24, the Anna Nagar Tower Park will draw a crowd of people who are dedicated to a cause. Three young activists – Steve Aditya, Manjula Ganesan and Sai Vignesh – are calling upon citizens to unite and speak up for animal rights.
Cases of animal cruelty are rampant across the country. And with the growth of social media, many videos of horrifying acts of cruelty are being shared.
But people are often at a loss when it comes to reaching out and lending a helping hand.
“That’s why we have created the event ‘Voice of the Voiceless’. Many of us are volunteers of animal welfare organisations, and we felt we need to conduct an event to raise awareness about animal cruelty,” says Vignesh, a Class XII student. “We will be sharing videos, giving talks and also sharing information about the benefits of veganism.”
The organisers have been widely sharing details of the event on social media. “We shared it on the Chennai Vegans page and, as of now, 50 people are expected to participate,” he says.
‘Voice of the Voiceless’ will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Sunday.
