CHENNAI: About four years after the sensational daylight murder of Dr Subbiah, which had been vividly captured by a nearby CCTV camera in Raja Annamalai Puram here, an advocate cited as one among nine suspects, has sought discharge from the case.
Advocate William has approached a sessions court in Chennai to be relieved from the case saying he had merely rendered professional assistance to other accused persons, and that he had nothing to do with the murder.
When the matter came up for hearing before VII additional judge N Vasanthaleela, the new special public prosecutor, N Vijayraj, said William took part in the conspiracy to murder the surgeon. He transferred cash to assailants through his bank account and the court should not discharge him from the case. The judge adjourned the matter to June 2 for orders.
On September 14, 2013, Dr Subbiah was attacked by a gang near his work place at Raja Annamalai Puram, apparently due to a dispute over a 2.4-acre plot of land at Anjugramam near Kanyakumari. Nine days later, the doctor succumbed to his injuries. The entire sequence of him being accosted by the gang and being hacked was captured by a CCTV installed in a nearby apartment.
