Villupuram: The district police have arrested two people and launched a hunt for 40 others on charges of driving a youth to die by suicide after he was assaulted by them accusing him of attempting to steal a bike parked in front of one of their houses at a village in Villupuram district. The gang also abused the youth by calling his caste name.
Police have formed four special teams to nab about 40 others involved in the crime. Police booked the two arrested and others under various sections of IPC and SC/ST Act, 1989. Villupuram superintendent of police N Shreenatha said a wordy duel erupted between two gangs one led by S Moorthy and another led by M Raja after Moorthy's gang accused Raja's gang of attempting to steal a bike. Moorthy's minor son and Raja sustained injuries in the clash. Kedar police registered cases against the two gangs after complaints . The SP said the next day after the altercation, Moorthy's aide E Venkatesan, 53 and 40 others came to Raja's house and picked up a quarrel with him. The gang abused Raja and threatened him of dire consequences if he did not withdraw the case. Unable to bear the humiliation, Raja resorted to end his life. He died by suicide at his house.
