CHENNAI: A 50-year-old bicycle thief from
Kumbakonam
was arrested by police on Monday night.
Police identified the man as H
Sridhar, of
Aduthurai
village in Kumbakonam.
According to police, the man had been looking for a job, but in vain. And this joblessness, apparently, led him to steal bicycles. Police intercepted him during a routine vehicle check when he was riding a bicycle at
Ashok Nagar
and recovered at least 20 bicycles from him. During inquiries, Sridhar said he had stolen more than 100 bicycles from Ashok Nagar, Kodambakkam, T Nagar and Mambalam. He sold each bicycle for 600 to 1,500, a police officer said. tnn
