CHENNAI: Police said they have
arrested
five people for
peddling
ganja and seized 2.7kg of the
narcotic
substance from them.
Acting on a tip, the Red Hills Police secured a duo in possession of 1.5kg
ganja
near a bus stand in the locality. Inquiries with the offenders, Vignesh, 29, of Vyasarpadi and Viji, 20, of Puzhal revealed that they were selling the illegal substance to
college
students in small quantities. An autorickshaw they used for the trade was also confiscated.
The two told police that they had procured the ganja from Ramya of Madhavaram. Ramya was initially picked up for interrogation. Police later arrested all three and remanded them in judicial custody. Police said Ramya’s husband Ajithkumar had been arrested earlier in a ganja peddling case.
Similarly, the Royala Nagar Police arrested two men on the Poonamallee High Road and seized 1.2kg ganja from them when they were found roaming near a
school
premises. Police said M Suresh, 37, and D Baskar, 36, of Ramapuram are history-sheeters with assault cases pending against them. They were remanded in judicial custody.
