4 held for killing history-sheeter

Chennai: A day after a history sheeter was hacked to death, police arrested a four-member gang at Tambaram on Wednesday. The victim Venkatesan, 33, of Kamarajar street in Old Perungalathur, was a local BJP functionary and had a few criminal cases pending against him. After a preliminary investigation, police found out that Venkatesan was last seen with his friends Guna, Sathish Kumar, Chandru and Arun. A detailed probe revealed that there was enmity brewing among the friends over land deals. Venkatesan, who took possession of the Poromboke lands, took the lion’s share of the amount they made through such illegal deals. Though others demanded equal share, Venkatesan did not agree, and this led to frequent fights. TNN

Police track down four-member chain snatching gang, nab one

A 19-year-old youth named Hussain Ali Sheik was arrested in Coimbatore for his involvement in three chain snatching cases. Along with three accomplices, they used a unique modus operandi of stealing motorcycles and snatching gold chains from women. The gang members would wear masks and helmets to hide their identities. The police formed special teams to track down the gang and identified them with the help of CCTV footage. The search for the remaining three members of the gang is ongoing.

Bombay Dyeing shares jump 20 pc; hit 52-week high after land deal

Shares of Bombay Dyeing surged 20% to a 52-week high after the company announced the sale of a 22-acre land parcel to Sumitomo for INR 5,200 crore. The deal, one of the largest land deals in Mumbai, will enable Bombay Dyeing to resolve various issues, record a pre-tax profit of INR 4,300 crore, and improve its net worth. The sale includes the Wadia International Centre and other establishments.
